Queen Victoria – Lurcher Terrier Mix – Rehomed

UPDATE – 11 December – Queen Victoria is one of our longer termers – and she should not be.  She is loving and gentle and one of the kindest souls.  She travels well in the car, loves her trips to the groomers, loves a potter in the garden and just hanging out with her human family.  She is now approaching 11 years old and has been in kennels too long.  We are looking for a retirement home for her – and cannot imagine a better Christmas gift than finding her a forever home.  She has Leishmania but she has tested negative for several years and is not on any medication.  She will need to be monitored and We will provide any family the support needed – just need a warm home and heart for her.

Victoria is terrier cross, abandoned by her owners and began living in a Spanish ravine.

She has lived in that ravine for years – the people of the nearby village were never able to catch her.  They said she lived there for 4/5 years – eventually they did manage to catch her – she had many litters over the years – she was very shy, she had little contact with people – and her faith and trust in people was shaken – we have no idea what horrors she has seen but we know she is a smart dog for having survived so long out there.

She is a black dog, she is shy of people, but after visiting several times – she started waiting for her volunteer humans at the front of the kennel…

Victoria started her rehabilitation in Spain last year, and she has been progressing really well.  She came to the UK in April, she is positive for Leishmania, She has no symptoms of the Leish and it is inactive.  She is on a daily medication to help keep the Leish inactive.

She’s a senior lady, around 8 or 9 years old,  she is approx 15/18 kilos – about knee high.  She is a real sweetheart – perfectly fine with other dogs and has tested well with cats (could live with dog savvy cats) She is currently in kennels in Norfolk.

She has been let down by people, it almost cost her life – could you be the person that shows Victoria that she is loved?

UPDATE: April 2019 :

We work with our dogs and are always introducing them to new things.  Queen Vic loves visiting our volunteers and she loves her scent activity games – she always asks to go in and she is straight looking for her chicken foot (one of her favourite treats).  She is super bright and has gained so much confidence.  She is still wary of strangers, but she soon learns they mean no harm and she comes for a gentle neck rub.  She has the sweetest eyes and we really think she will make the perfect companion.

Ideally we are looking for a family that will take life at her pace,  a really calm life without too much going on.  She doesn’t need to go for long walks – she needs a good garden and the new family to keep her brain entertained.  She will help you in the garden, she will be by your side watching TV, she will help you in the kitchen … a little too much (she does love her food!)

Could you be that special home for her?  We know that once she finds her family – she will blossom
